LASH FAQ
WHO CAN WEAR EYELASH EXTENSIONS?
Anyone who has eyelashes can wear eyelash extensions. Long thick lashes are touted as one of the most desirable features a person can have. Eyelash extensions are a small enhancement that make a big difference. Women want eyes that pop with that ease of “I woke up like this.” Truly whether you are full-faced glam or love to look natural we can give you lashes that suit your everyday lifestyle.
HOW DO I KNOW IF EYELASH EXTENSIONS ARE RIGHT FOR ME?
Eyelash extensions are for anyone wanting a more lush lash line and that “maybe she’s born with it” envy. As long as you have natural lashes, you can wear extensions.
Our lashes naturally shed about every 60 days. This is why we don’t have to trim our natural lashes like we do our brows. Our lashes are perpetually moving through a cycle of growing, resting and shedding. This means that it is completely normal for natural lashes to shed through about 1-5 lashes a day.
Each extension is placed on one individual natural eyelash hair to allow for this process to continue without feeling pain or irritation. Extensions are carefully applied away from the skin as the glue is meant to be bonded to lashes only. When your natural lash is ready to shed it will take the eyelash extension with it.
Because of this natural process you will need to return for fills every 3 weeks or sooner depending on how full you wish to keep your lashes each month. Typically we recommend maintaining your lashes by coming in every 3 weeks when you can expect to have about 50% of your extensions remaining.
WILL LASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGE MY OWN NATURAL LASHES?
No, not when each natural lash is precisely isolated and bonded correctly. There is no possible way to damage the natural lashes as long as the extensions are being applied in correspondence with the active growth phase, they will shed normally. Allowing them to remain in there normal healthy states growing, resting and shedding about every 30 days. Remember lashes are individuals not a team!
CAN YOU TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT THE PROCESS?
When you come in for your initial full set we start with a consultation to better understand what your dream lashes will look like. We go through step by step so you will know exactly what we are doing. You will be laying down during the entire process. Your lash artist will use either medical tape, gel pad or a combination of both to secure your bottom lashes away from the top. We always want to make sure that your natural water lines form the seal no different than having your eyes closed. Now its time to keep your eyes closed and take a much needed lash nap. (keep the caffeine to a minimum before your appointment please) For the next hour or two (depending on a touch up or full set) your lash artist will be meticulously isolating one single natural eyelash that will get an extension. After several lash extensions have been placed your lash artist will then be separating any lashes that are touching to ensure all lashes are bonded and remain healthy. We will finish your application by setting the lashes which actually feels like a mini treatment in itself. Sometimes baby bottom lashes can “pop” up during an application so your lash artist will check this first and then VOLIA! you open your eyes to the lashes of your dreams. The best part, we promise no one will ever know they’re extensions. Shhhh!
WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE I COME IN FOR MY LASHES?
Please remove all your makeup around your eyes before you come in, especially mascara. Please do not use any heavy creams under your eyes before your appointment.
CAN I WEAR MY CONTACTS?
Yes
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY NEW LASH EXTENSIONS?
- Clean lashes = happy healthy lashes that will last longer and look better in between appointments. Build up from makeup, and everyday wear can weaken the bond of the glue and leave lashes looking lackluster.
- Care for your lashes nightly by using our recommended lash cleanser.
- Be gentle, don’t rub your eyes excessively and don’t pick or pull on the lashes as it can pull your own delicate eyelash out along with the extension.
- Gently brushing your new lashes as needed to keep them fluffy!
Tell everyone they’re yours!! (or spread the lash love and let them in on your new secret)
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SILK, MINK, CLASSIC, OR VOLUME?
Many manufactures have different names for their extensions i.e. silk or mink but most are made of a synthetic material which allows the extensions to maintain a curl and not harbor bacteria as actual animal hair can. It is the actual process of how they are made and their taper or thickness that makes them different.
While there are real mink lashes out there, they can be hard to control and it’s almost impossible to have the same curls and length among the lashes. The synthetic “mink,” lashes are tapered 2/3 of the way and offer the lightest feel and fluffy natural look. They hold all the same characteristics of real mink, except if you get them wet, they won’t lose their curl, give a better hold + are without the sanitary issues associate with actual animal hair.
Silk lashes are typically tapered 1/3 of the way up. They are super lightweight and provide a dark full finish.
Classic or Volume refers to the actual technique used during application. Classic lash extensions are bonded 1:1, that’s one single extension to one single lash. Volume is still bonded on a single lash by lash basis, but we are actually creating a fan on that one lash to give the appearance of more lashes. The volume lashes are much much thinner in diameter allowing us to safely bond 2-6+ volume lash extensions to each natural lash creating a fan from the base. VaVaVoom!
STILL NOT SURE OF THE DIFFERENCE?..
Cluster, Y or W lashes are pre bonded with a much thicker base and tighter fan. Volume lashes are created by hand with a much thinner base. The cluster, Y or W lashes are meant to be used with a temporary glue. They are also meant to give a temporary look lasting a few days opposed to lash extensions which last indefinitely with monthly touch-ups.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY APPOINTMENT?
We understand that things come up and you may need to cancel your appointment. Our lash artists are busy gals and book out in advance so we ask that you give us 24 hour notice for the cancellation. If cancellation occurs without 24 hour notice you will be charged a your full appointment amount. We appreciate your understanding.
